A membership can turn a useful resource library into recurring revenue, but it also creates an ongoing promise. Buyers need a reason to stay beyond downloading everything in the first month. The model works best when the updates are genuinely useful and feasible for you to maintain.
A small offer to test
Offer a focused library plus a clearly stated update schedule, such as one tested template each month. Explain access after cancellation and avoid vague lifetime promises.

How to start
- Sell or test individual resources first to identify what people use. Do not build a subscription around unproven volume.
- Prepare several releases in advance and estimate support time. Create a visible roadmap without promising more than you can deliver.
- Make billing, cancellation, and file access easy to understand. Track which resources solve recurring problems.
Finding the first buyers
Existing users of your standalone products are a more natural audience than strangers being asked to commit indefinitely.
Work through the economics
Forty hypothetical members at $6 produce $240 monthly revenue. With $55 in hosting, selling costs, and refunds, contribution is $185 before tax, overhead, creation, and support time.
Contribution is what remains after the costs stated in the example; it is not take-home profit. Include unpaid sales time, setup, support, unsuccessful attempts, and any omitted overhead when deciding whether the idea is worth your time.
What can make it a poor fit
A subscription with little new value can create dissatisfaction and refunds. Check current platform terms and applicable recurring-billing requirements.
How much work continues?
Income can recur, but so do content and support obligations. It is less passive than selling a stable one-time download.
Your first decision point
Run a small paid founding group with a defined review date and measure retention without making cancellation difficult.
