Kirimas.com guide: Home Technology Lessons for Older Adults
GUIDE · Local Services · Active teaching service

A patient lesson on video calling, photo sharing, or phone settings can be more useful than a fast repair visit. Home technology teaching focuses on helping the person repeat a task independently. It is a good fit for someone who explains clearly and respects the learner's pace and privacy.

A small offer to test

Offer one hour covering a single everyday task, plus a printed recap. Exclude banking, investment decisions, password custody, and hardware repairs from the beginner package.

How to start

  1. Ask the learner which task matters most and which device they use. Prepare large, readable instructions without assuming every phone has the same menus.
  2. Let them do the tapping and typing. Repeat the task from the beginning so they can practice without relying on your memory.
  3. Leave a short checklist and agree on a limited follow-up question window. Do not turn a single lesson into unlimited technical support.

Finding the first buyers

Community centers, libraries, and referrals from families can introduce the service where local rules permit. Be clear about the fee and avoid selling unnecessary devices or subscriptions.

Work through the economics

A $50 lesson with 30 minutes of travel and preparation and $6 in costs leaves $44, or about $29 per hour before tax, insurance, and overhead. Nearby paired appointments can improve the economics.

Contribution is what remains after the costs stated in the example; it is not take-home profit. Include unpaid sales time, setup, support, unsuccessful attempts, and any omitted overhead when deciding whether the idea is worth your time.

What can make it a poor fit

Clients should enter passwords privately and retain control of accounts. If a task involves money or identity documents, help them contact the legitimate provider rather than handling the transaction yourself.

How much work continues?

A short sequence of lessons can work, but the goal should be increasing independence. This is paid teaching, not passive income.

Your first decision point

Ask the learner to demonstrate the task unaided at the end. That result is a better measure than how many settings you changed.
