A focused icon set can save a designer from combining mismatched symbols. The opportunity is visual consistency for a particular workflow, such as workshop tools or event planning. A smaller complete set can be more valuable than a large collection with inconsistent stroke weights and unclear meanings.
A small offer to test
Create original vector icons in common formats, with consistent sizing, naming, and a clear commercial-use license. Include light and dark background previews.

How to start
- List the actual concepts the audience needs and sketch distinct symbols for them. Test whether users understand ambiguous icons.
- Check alignment, stroke weight, optical balance, and readability at small sizes.
- Export clean files without hidden assets or unnecessary metadata. Provide a contact sheet and usage instructions.
Finding the first buyers
Designers working in the chosen industry are the likely buyers. Demonstrate the set in a realistic interface or document using fictional branding.
Work through the economics
Fifteen hypothetical $22 licenses generate $330. With an assumed $70 in selling costs and refunds, contribution is $260 before tax, overhead, and design time.
Contribution is what remains after the costs stated in the example; it is not take-home profit. Include unpaid sales time, setup, support, unsuccessful attempts, and any omitted overhead when deciding whether the idea is worth your time.
What can make it a poor fit
Avoid tracing another icon library or including protected brand marks without permission. State whether buyers may redistribute icons inside templates or software products.
How much work continues?
A stable set can license repeatedly, but support and format updates continue. New symbols should fit the established visual system.
Your first decision point
Have designers use the set in a sample project and note which missing concepts prevent adoption.
