Kirimas.com guide: Reselling Small Solid-Wood Furniture Without Major Restoration
GUIDE · Reselling · Inventory resale

Small tables and stools can be easier to move and store than large cabinets. A resale approach based on careful selection and light cleaning can avoid the time sink of full refinishing. The key is buying sound pieces at a price that leaves room for transport and slow sales.

A small offer to test

Sell clean, structurally sound small furniture with actual dimensions, condition photos, and clear material descriptions. Do not label veneer as solid wood.

How to start

  1. Inspect joints, wobble, pests, odors, and previous repairs. Skip pieces requiring skills or equipment you do not have.
  2. Research comparable completed local sales and calculate transport before buying.
  3. Clean conservatively, photograph in good light, and describe every meaningful defect. Arrange safe pickup and avoid blocking your own living space with inventory.

Finding the first buyers

Local renters and homeowners seeking a specific size are the audience. Accurate dimensions can be more persuasive than decorative styling.

Work through the economics

A hypothetical $85 sale minus $25 acquisition, $15 transport, and $5 supplies leaves $40 before tax, selling costs, overhead, returns, and labor. Extensive refinishing would change the model.

Contribution is what remains after the costs stated in the example; it is not take-home profit. Include unpaid sales time, setup, support, unsuccessful attempts, and any omitted overhead when deciding whether the idea is worth your time.

What can make it a poor fit

Old finishes and pest damage can create hazards. Do not sand unknown coatings casually or make unsupported antique claims.

How much work continues?

This is active sourcing and handling. Storage constraints often limit growth before buyer demand does.

Your first decision point

Sell one small piece with minimal work and track every trip before attempting larger furniture.
