Kirimas.com guide: A Craft Pricing Spreadsheet Can Become a Useful Digital Product
GUIDE · Digital Products · Reusable digital product

Makers can underestimate a product's cost when they count materials but forget packaging, selling fees, or their own time. A pricing worksheet can make those assumptions visible. Its value is transparent arithmetic and editable inputs, not telling every seller what customers will be willing to pay.

A small offer to test

Build a calculator for one craft niche with material quantities, waste, labor time, packaging, and editable fee assumptions. Show contribution at several possible selling prices. Label every default as an example.

How to start

  1. Choose one product type you understand and map its actual production steps. Ask makers which costs they repeatedly miss.
  2. Test zero quantities, percentage fees, batch production, and rejected units. Explain the difference between markup and margin with a worked example.
  3. Include a sample project and a blank template. Have a tester reproduce the calculation with a handheld calculator.

Finding the first buyers

A tutorial built around one recognizable product can attract more relevant buyers than a generic promise to price anything. Partner with a craft educator only under a transparent arrangement.

Work through the economics

If a $15 workbook sells 30 copies, revenue is $450. An illustrative $90 allowance for selling costs and refunds leaves $360 before tax, overhead, and development time. Thirty hours of work would make the initial return $12 per hour.

Contribution is what remains after the costs stated in the example; it is not take-home profit. Include unpaid sales time, setup, support, unsuccessful attempts, and any omitted overhead when deciding whether the idea is worth your time.

What can make it a poor fit

Incorrect fee formulas can mislead buyers. Keep assumptions editable and direct users to current platform fees. The worksheet does not establish demand or replace professional tax advice.

How much work continues?

The same file can sell repeatedly, but it needs testing when formulas or supported software change.

Your first decision point

Release a small version to paying makers and ask them to compare it with one completed production batch.
