Kirimas.com guide: Sell a Freelance Project Tracker Instead of Another Generic Planner
GUIDE · Digital Products · Reusable digital product

A freelance project tracker can be useful when it answers a narrow question: which job needs attention next, and what is blocking payment? The product is not the number of tabs. It is a workflow a buyer can understand quickly and use without asking you to rebuild it for their business.

A small offer to test

Create a spreadsheet for solo freelancers with project stages, deadlines, invoice status, and a simple dashboard. Include sample data, a blank copy, and a short walkthrough. Keep accounting and tax calculations outside the first version.

How to start

  1. Interview a few freelancers about missed deadlines and handoff problems. Sketch the smallest tracker that solves one recurring issue.
  2. Test formulas with empty cells, overdue tasks, and duplicate project names. Make input cells visibly different from calculations.
  3. Give testers the instructions without a live explanation. Rewrite confusing sections before opening paid sales.

Finding the first buyers

Demonstrate one real workflow in a short tutorial and share it where promotion is allowed. A free screenshot or limited sample can help a buyer judge fit without giving away unrelated bundles.

Work through the economics

At a hypothetical $19 price, 20 sales generate $380. After an assumed $60 in combined selling costs and refunds, contribution is $320 before tax, overhead, and creation time. If building and supporting it took 20 hours, that is $16 per hour for the period.

Contribution is what remains after the costs stated in the example; it is not take-home profit. Include unpaid sales time, setup, support, unsuccessful attempts, and any omitted overhead when deciding whether the idea is worth your time.

What can make it a poor fit

Avoid implying that a tracker will make clients pay or guarantee productivity. Use original formulas and design, and state supported software versions.

How much work continues?

Delivery can be automated, but bugs, compatibility changes, and customer questions remain. Budget time for updates rather than calling the whole business passive.

Your first decision point

Seek five paid users who complete the workflow. Improve the product based on repeated problems before adding features.
