A photographer can finish an event with thousands of frames and little time to sort them. A culling assistant helps identify technically weak duplicates and organize the keepers. The client still controls creative selection; your job is to make that decision faster and more consistent.
A small offer to test
Review a fixed image count and deliver a catalog or selection list in the photographer's preferred workflow. Include duplicate grouping and basic technical flags. Detailed retouching and final album design are separate.

One email per experiment. Full numbers, no fluff.
How to start
- Practice on a shoot you own and write down selection rules. Separate missed focus from an intentionally soft artistic frame.
- Ask the client for examples of their preferred keepers and rejects. Confirm how to handle important moments that are imperfect but irreplaceable.
- Work non-destructively and preserve originals. Test catalog compatibility before processing a complete event.
Finding the first buyers
Busy independent photographers are a focused audience. A small paid trial from a completed job lets them compare your selections with their own without risking a current delivery.
Work through the economics
If a batch pays $160, takes four hours, and incurs $8 in allocated costs, the $152 contribution equals $38 per hour before tax and overhead. Slow file transfers and catalog repairs also count as work.
Contribution is what remains after the costs stated in the example; it is not take-home profit. Include unpaid sales time, setup, support, unsuccessful attempts, and any omitted overhead when deciding whether the idea is worth your time.
What can make it a poor fit
Event photos may include children and private celebrations. Use approved storage and retention, and never publish samples without both contractual permission and appropriate consent.
How much work continues?
A shared selection style can make repeat jobs faster. Demand may be seasonal, so avoid treating one busy month as a year-round forecast.
Your first decision point
Continue when the photographer accepts most of your selections and the transfer process is reliable.
