Kirimas.com guide: Remote Software Tutoring: Sell One Useful Skill at a Time
GUIDE · Freelance Services · Active service

Many adults want to learn one practical software task without taking a long course. A live tutoring session can help them build a spreadsheet chart, organize a document, or edit a simple video. The value is patient guidance on a real task, not a claim to teach every feature in an hour.

A small offer to test

Offer a 60-minute session for one named outcome, followed by a short personalized recap. Ask for the learner's software version and goal beforehand. Keep troubleshooting unrelated devices outside the lesson.

How to start

  1. Choose a task you can demonstrate from start to finish without improvising. Prepare a practice file containing no private information.
  2. Let the learner perform the steps while you guide them. Build in time for them to repeat the task without prompts.
  3. Send a concise recap with the exact steps and one practice exercise. Get permission before recording any session.

Finding the first buyers

Local adult-learning groups, professional communities, and referrals can be useful. Describe the outcome in everyday language, such as creating an invoice template, instead of selling a vague mastery session.

Work through the economics

At $55 for a session with 30 minutes of preparation and follow-up, plus $3 of allocated costs, the $52 contribution is about $35 per hour before tax and overhead. Heavy custom preparation needs a separate quote.

Contribution is what remains after the costs stated in the example; it is not take-home profit. Include unpaid sales time, setup, support, unsuccessful attempts, and any omitted overhead when deciding whether the idea is worth your time.

What can make it a poor fit

Screen sharing can expose passwords, customer data, or personal files. Ask learners to close unrelated windows and enter their own credentials privately. Do not take over financial transactions during a lesson.

How much work continues?

A short series can work when each session has a clear next skill. This remains time-based teaching, even if reusable practice files reduce preparation.

Your first decision point

Teach three paid sessions in the same narrow topic. Continue if learners can complete the task independently and preparation time decreases.
