A maker can finish a successful market day without knowing which products actually performed well. An inventory tracker connects opening stock, sales, returns, and remaining items. A focused version for one type of seller can be easier to use than a complex retail system.
A small offer to test
Build a workbook with product variants, opening quantities, units sold, cash and card totals, and a restock list. Keep accounting integrations out of the first release.

One email per experiment. Full numbers, no fluff.
How to start
- Walk through a fictional event with damaged items, discounts, and returned stock. Make sure quantities reconcile.
- Design a paper tally option for vendors who cannot use a laptop at the booth.
- Test import from the tally sheet and explain how to correct a mistaken entry without hiding the change.
Finding the first buyers
Small craft vendors and market organizers can understand the use case. Show how the tracker answers which colors or sizes to make before the next event.
Work through the economics
At $14, 25 hypothetical sales generate $350. An assumed $70 in selling costs and refunds leaves $280 before tax, overhead, and creation time.
Contribution is what remains after the costs stated in the example; it is not take-home profit. Include unpaid sales time, setup, support, unsuccessful attempts, and any omitted overhead when deciding whether the idea is worth your time.
What can make it a poor fit
Do not market it as a complete bookkeeping system. Payment processor totals, sales tax handling, and cash reconciliation may require additional records.
How much work continues?
File delivery can be automated, but updates and buyer questions still matter. A clear version number prevents support confusion.
Your first decision point
Have a few makers use it at one event and reconcile the ending stock physically.
